App development in Vancouver

App development in Vancouver for tech, games and film

Vancouver is known for technology companies, game studios and a film and visual-effects industry. We build the tools and products around them, with British Columbia's PIPA in mind, at a fixed price per step.

In Vancouver, software companies, game studios and film and visual-effects houses sit side by side. The software questions that follow are practical ones, such as how a pipeline stays visible to producers or how a player account works across a game and its companion app.

Games: everything around the game

A game is more than its client. Players expect accounts, profiles, purchases, friends lists and a way to check on things from a phone. Studios also need dashboards for live operation. We build that surrounding product, with a server side meant to cope with spikes and a clean interface for the people who run it. The game engine itself is not part of the offer.

Film and visual effects: tools for production

Productions run on status. Which shot is waiting for review, which asset changed, who approved what. Small purpose-built apps, such as a review and sign-off tool or an asset tracker, often replace a pile of spreadsheets and chat threads. Those are good fixed-price projects: a clear workflow, a handful of roles and an audit trail.

Technology companies: a first app or a second platform

For a software company with a web product, the app is usually a client of an existing API. For a new venture, it starts as a First Version (MVP) that tests one workflow with real users. In both cases the scope is written first and the price is fixed before the build begins.

British Columbia privacy law

Private-sector organizations in British Columbia are generally governed by the provincial Personal Information Protection Act. Where personal information moves across provincial or national borders, federal PIPEDA may also be relevant. The shared principles are consent, stated purposes, limited collection and appropriate safeguards, and the app is built around them. This is engineering documentation, not legal advice.

Contract, invoicing and collaboration

The contract is with DigitalFreedom Global LLC, registered in Wyoming, USA, and invoices are in US dollars. The work is remote and written, with a shared board, a build log and meetings by arrangement. The repositories and cloud accounts are in your name from day one.

Price, contract and data

  • Every step has a fixed price, set in writing before work starts; extra scope is added only through a change order you approve in writing.
  • The code sits in your repository from day one; with each paid milestone, the rights to everything delivered up to that point pass to you. Third-party components and pre-existing tools keep their own licences.
  • For rescues and new builds, 90 days of free bug-fixing after launch, on top of the 12-month warranty under the Terms. Ongoing operation starts at $1,400 a month.
  • You contract with DigitalFreedom Global LLC, Wyoming, USA. All prices are net; the tax treatment is clarified before contract and stated in the offer.
  • Our infrastructure is in the United Kingdom and Europe. Where I process personal data on your behalf, we sign a data processing agreement. The provider overview on digitalfreedom.co.za lists the subprocessors, their locations and the contractual safeguards.

Common questions

Which privacy law applies in British Columbia?

British Columbia has its own private-sector statute, the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), which governs how most BC organizations collect, use and disclose personal information. Where data crosses provincial or national borders, PIPEDA can apply as well. Which regime covers you is for your counsel to confirm; the data model is planned with the shared principles of consent, purpose limitation and safeguards in mind.

Do you build companion apps for games?

Yes, the surrounding product rather than the game engine: accounts, player profiles, stores, social features, live-ops dashboards and companion apps for phone and desktop. We do not build the game client itself.

Who is the contracting party, and in which currency do you invoice?

DigitalFreedom Global LLC, registered in Wyoming, USA. Contract and invoices are in US dollars.

Can you support film and visual-effects workflows?

We build internal tools around them: review and approval apps, asset tracking, shot status boards and on-set data capture. Rendering and compositing software are outside the scope.

What does it cost?

For a studio tool: a First Version (MVP) from $27,800. For a companion app on both platforms: a market-ready app from $83,300. Fixed price, agreed in writing.
